MEETING FDA GUIDELINESOR FOR OXYGEN TRANSMISSION The US FDA considers fresh fish and seafood products potentially life-threatening due to the possibility ofproducing deadly toxins when packed in vacuum application. Therefore, the FDA has strict packaging regulations regarding vacuum-packed fresh fish and seafood. Packaging that has an oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of 10,000 cc/m2 /24 hours at 24°C, or higher, often referred to as 10K OTR, are highly permeable and comply with FDA oxygen permeability guidelines for packaging fresh seafood while preserving colour, flavour and integrity.
